Rodent surveillance

HerpDerp The Diary of Lupin Pooter

As we were navigating through one tiny swath of this the vibrant, bustling, effervescent, etc. urban milieu yesterday, something in my peripheral vision struck me as potentially interesting. Down an alley to our right, I spotted a box bolted to the pavement, a tall mast, and a couple of cameras aimed parallel to the alleyway and perpendicular to the pedestrian walkway on which we trod. Naturally, I paused to have a look-see and snap some photos.

An interesting-looking technical installation in an otherwise-unremarkable alleyway.

Dual cameras, facing up and down the alley, with a downwards-pointing antenna.

The authorities, in this case the FEHD, had thoughtfully zip-tied (through some holes in the camera mast) a laminated bilingual sign explaining this intriguing installation’s purpose:

This area is under surveillance by
Thermal Camera Monitoring System
to detect rodent activities.

At that precise moment, there were no rodents to be seen in the vicinity, but I fully approve of and support rodent-control initiatives.
