The dishwasher-safe mug that wasn’t

It's a mug and holds coffee satisfactorily but it's not dishwasher-safe.
I present to you my GET SHIT DONE mug, Two and a half years or so post-purchase. I’ve included a screencap of its AMZN product page at lower left.

For a cup or dish, a trip through the dishwasher probably represents an inanimate household object’s version of trial by ordeal. A couple of years back, we bought a bunch of mugs and all but one have passed the dishwasher test with flying colors. The mug shown above, however, has been found wanting.

The fading started early and was readily perceptible after a couple of months of use. Neither Sara nor I often publicly review stuff we’ve bought, but this was one case where I went back to Amazon and left a one-star review accompanied by a snapshot showing the purpling of the black text printed on the mug. Two years on, the design on the mug has continued to degrade, as you can see in the photo above. I put a black-topped Sharpie permanent marker next to the mug to serve as a yardstick for the degree of fading that’s occurred.

The mug’s product description on Amazon continues to claim that it’s dishwasher-safe and other reviewers have stated that the designs on their mugs are as dark and crisp as ever. Perhaps ours was a one-off, defectively-printed mug. In any case, for the benefit of anyone else who might wind up getting a non-dishwasher-safe GET SHIT DONE mug, I’ve updated the two-year-old Amazon review with a photo taken today.
